Poinsettia Filigree Frame

We are just loving the new Creative Expressions dies by Sue Wilson. They are so versatile and very reasonably priced. I love that you have so many choices from just one package and when someone said the other day, “I like this die, but I want to see some cards made with it first”, that I just had to reply “I’ll make some this week”.

So here are just a few ideas – some still await a sentiment but I am waiting for the inspiration. Or maybe I will just let the die tell its story.

A range of Christmas Cards using a variety of dies, some with Shimmer Sheetz

New products in the store just motivate me to make cards that are simple and easy for any skill level to put together. My theme this year has tended to be just two or three colours to keep it all very easy and time efficient. I always promise myself that I will start early to make my own cards but for the past few years that just hasn’t happened and I find myself rushing close to post time to get them done.

Some of the products are not on the store yet. I have an issue with the admin side of the store and cannot load new products or accept Visa payments. Hopefully this will be sorted soon but in the meantime any questions regarding products can be asked on the Facebook page – see below for link. Purchases can also be made Offline by paying direct into the Business Bank Account once you have been invoiced.

So enough already. Here they are!!!

Just added this one today 29th Dec…………………..

Nativity Card Ideas

I discovered this beautiful die while looking for something else entirely. It is obviously very popular as I had to back order it and I see it is again Out of Stock at my distributors. Still have a few in our Online store.

Anyway, just a few cards I enjoyed putting together during my first “Play”.

I have used a sheet from the Wild Rose Studio Paper Pack – Antique Library. Love that pack and I think it works well here as it has gradients of clour so that the nativity scene sits in the lighter shades and almost gives a glow!

Peace

and a different look by first embossing the card with small hearts (from my stash) but Swiss Dots would also work.

Love, Joy and Peace

Still trying to decide if this one below is my favourite so far. I think it is!

Tattered Lace – Three Wise Men

I love these gorgeous new dies and just had to have a play to see how well they fitted our normal size cards for posting. Square size cards in New Zealand cost double the postage and therefore I tend to only make this size card when passing direct to the recipient. These dies fit both the normal C6 card and an A4 size card triple folded.

On this first one below I have used a normal size card – ie an A5 sheet of cardstock folded in half. If I had just edged the front camel forward to the front edge of the card the third one wouldn’t have overlaped. Next time!

C6 size card

C6 size card

This next one is made from an A4 sheet of card, triple folded and then the lower folded removed to get a standard one fold card. Fits easily into a business size envelope and normal postage rate.

Easel Card using a Stand Up Helper

Elizabeth Craft Designs have created this new and clever idea – Stand Up Helpers. Their major purpose is to use these when making easel cards but they can also be used for sentiments just like you would use any other sentiment die. Just cut along the fold line. I hope to do a video shortly to show these in more detail but that will be at least a couple of weeks away. In the meantime here is the first card I created when having a trial run with this new creation.

The card stands easily behind the standup helper as you can see below.

Card in place using the Stand Up helper

The Season’s Greetings can fold down when the card is laid flat and being prepared to go in an envelope.

Card in near closed position ready to go in the envelope.

This photo shows the card as I began to flatten it out ready to go in the envelope. Folds flat like any normal card.

Inside of Card shows the stand Up helper.

Inside of Card shows the stand Up helper.

This picture shows the top of the card folded back revealing the Season’s Greetings cut into the base card. If you wanted to use this sentiment on the front of a card you could just cut it from any scrap piece of card and then you cut on the line at the base of the wording. I will do a cut as soon as I can so that you see what I mean.

If you have any ideas using these Stand Up Helpers, I would love to hear/see them.

I will continue to create with these and add ideas.

Thank You for looking!

There are a range of sentiments available in the sentiment helpers and I have decided now to stock each of these. They will be arriving to my store later this week. They are:

Thinking of You, Thank You, Season’s Greetings, Hello, Happy Birthday, Get well, Congratulations and Best Wishes.

Shimmer Sheetz and Elizabeth Craft Designs

While this is a new product to me and the Online store, by checking out You Tube, Elizabeth Craft Designs and Pinterest you can see that this has been around for a  little while now. So go check those places out for real inspiration.

I learned some lessons while playing with the product and also by being put in touch with Els from Elizabeth Craft – so helpful.

As I say on my Facebook page, I am a rather awkward crafter. Because I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis forever…………………well since I was 16, my hands don’t always do what I want them to do but usually I manage to cover up my mistakes. You did know didn’t you that there are NO MISTAKES in crafting, you really did want that flower or that bit of lace right where it is. Shhhhh, nobody knows what is underneath!!

I should stop waffling and show you what I have created so far.

Embossed and inked and..........

Embossed and inked and……….

So simple to run the Shimmer Sheetz through the Cuttlebug using an Embossing Folder. It worked a treat and shimmers and sparkles right before your eyes. I have to tell you none of the photos do these products justice!! The effect is really quite stunning!

Next I tried the sanding, to bring out the silver core. Mmmmm….. well I should have laid it flat on the table and tried that but of course I didn’t, I balanced it on my hand. Don’t ask me why. Maybe I just needed to learn the lesson that you could learn from me!!  So place it on a flat surface when you sand the raised embossing.

Then I got out my Staz On black stamp pad and ran that over the embossing. Elizabeth Craft have a You Tube video showing this and it looks amazing. Because my Staz On needs a bit more life (ink) added into it, it didn’t quite hit the mark but I could see the potential there as I hope you also can. You certainly will if you check out You Tube etc.

I decided to cut the embossed piece into four uneven size to get the effect I wanted. The sheets are 5″ x 12″ and I wanted to get three designs from the sheet and our NZ cards are deeper than the 5inches hence my reason for stretching out the design  by placing it over the black card to fill the front of the card. A bit of black lace cut with an Anastasia Cheery Lynn die and some pearl bling and we have an almost finished creation. It just needs a sentiment, then again…..maybe it doesn’t.

Another……….

Red Metallic and Peel Off Ornaments.

Red Metallic and Peel Off Ornaments.

No too many errors in my third play. One of the bows is a bit scew but I can adjust that. I have placed the ornament peel offs onto clear acetate and then used Dufex brush markers to colour the acetate from the back. There are so many ways you can use the Peel Offs, not just these but the others on the store. Colour them in, place foil behind or a pattern paper, leave them as they are, use water colour pencils or markers when you have placed them on water colour paper. The ideas are limitless.  The Wishing you a Merry Christmas on this card is a Doodey Transparent Peel Off sticker and once again, what ever you place it over will show through, or of course you can colour it in as I have done on the next card.

Copper Magic!

Copper Magic!

I saw a Christmas card somewhere, some time ago that was all done in brown tones. It was stunning! When I saw this copper Shimmer Sheetz I thought – now that would work! The effect of this copper one once again is really quite something. As you see I have used the Doodey Peel Off again for the sentiment and used two of the Elizabeth Craft Design Ornaments in the Gold. You can get these in Black and Silver as well. Silver is in stock and the black is about to be ordered.

My mistake on this card? I was a bit heavy handed with the Peel Off and pulled it off the sheet as I would a smaller Peel off or a Transparent one and the longer ornament is a little out of shape. Why am I showing/telling you this? Well whoever gets this card won’t know that it isn’t supposed to look like this, so I’m not telling them……..but also you can learn from my mistake. Els said either put the sticker on the table upside down and place your paper over this or “make your fingers a little bit wet. That way it is really easy to handle the peel off.’s”. Simple when you know how. Also, I just used a border piece of Peel Off for the string but you could use ribbon, twine, sparkle thread.

Tulip design on Shimmer Sheetz.

Tulip design on Shimmer Sheetz.

I just used some small pieces left over to make these next two cards. I laid the tulip over the green and the Turquoise piece and cut around. That is just black card stock in the background that I ran through the Cuttlebug with an embossing folder. I love the stain glass look of these black outlines.

Tulips from...........

Tulips from………..

You can also see a variation of colour in the green stem on this one but still the photos do not really show the full effect. The pictures of the actual sheets will give you a better idea of the effect.

I have also used some Washi tape on this last card. Washi tape? What is that? It is a Japanese invented sticky back tape which is either transparent or fabric, comes in a range of designs – florals, checks, spots, plains etc. and is about to be added to our store. In the meantime feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this.

The Shimmer Sheetz come in packs of three of the same colour. I am happy to swap the packs around so that you get three different sheetz of your choosing in the pack but you would need to either contact me via the Online store http://www.cardandscrapbookingsupplies.co.nz/contact_us.php or leave a message on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Card-and-Scrapbooking-Supplies-NZ/197402113631816. I will be adding to the colour range so keep checking back or if you are an NZ resident let me know if there is a particular colour you are looking for.

SHIMMER SHEETZ ARE ALSO AMAZING WHEN USED FOR JEWELLERY. Check out links below.

Some more ideas with the Transparent Peel Offs and other Christmas Card ideas.

For most of these cards I have used the Transparent Peel Offs and coloured them in with the Dufex pens. In order to do this and get an all over finish I have stuck the Peel Offs on to Acetate first, coloured them in and then trimmed them or in the case of the Lantern further down, cut an opening in the card and then cut the acetate slightly bigger to fix to the inside of the card. On this first card I have also coloured the Seasons Greetings with the Red Dufex Pen. All the products I used from my store are listed below.

Small Ornaments using the Dufex Pens

Christmas Bells 1

Christmas Bells 2

Christmas Lantern

Large Ornaments on Holographic Mirri Board

Jane’s Projects

Jane has done some lovely projects using some of the lovely DCWV stacks that she has purchased and the Christmas embossing folder just in this year.  I am sure you will get some great inspiration from looking at these.

Christmas cards

A very effective use of embossing folders.

40th

No doubt the person receiving this was absolutely delighted.

Wise Old Owl

Love the use of the real twigs and leaves.

Owl & the Moon

What a great way to use the pattern from the embossing folder to add extra dimension.

For someone special.

I am going to cheat and wait for Jane to let me know which stacks she used for her projects. My pile of DCWV is rather large and she might make locating the right name much easier.

UPDATE – Jane used Kaiser Craft papers and DCWV – Ciao Bella! for the book – second from the top.

Thank you so much for sharing these with us Jane. These are lovely.
