ANZAC Commemorations

There are a whole series of emotions that you face when doing pages for a young man who was Killed in Action. These two lads were 1st cousins of my grandmother, making them my 1st cousins twice removed. I had heard of John Colin Campbell numerous times throughout my growing up years as my grandmother had a large photograph on her lounge wall and each year after attending the ANZAC Day service at the Burwood Memorial in Christchurch, New Zealand she would replace the previous years poppy or sometimes she would add the poppy leaving the previous year one still in its place. She also named one of her son’s after John Colin – Colin H….  I really must get a copy of that original photo that she had.

I heard about Alexander when I was doing Genealogy research for the Campbell family and looked up one of my extended family members. She let me take a copy of the little boy on Alexander’s page. Alexander was also my grandmother’ first cousin – nephews of my great grandmother, sons of two of her brothers.

I am always delighted to see the signature of those who I never got to meet – not sure why but it feels like you see something very personal about them. It is one of the first things I look for when looking at old Wills.

Anyway enough for now. I will add more to this page (particularly between the pictures) but just wanted to start somewhere. You can click on the pictures to enlarge.

If you are doing a ANZAC scrapbook layout or mini album, I would love to share your projects on this BLOG.

Sisters – Part One of a 2 page layout.

I love the Lace and Linen stack and so have continued to do some layouts using this paper. I am stuck at home at the moment so had the chance to get the first page finished. It was almost there but needed “something else”! As soon as I can get out and get my photos printed I will complete page 2.

I have enjoyed organising this page. Sisters are wonderful!!  Mine especially!!!!

This first picture is one of two sheets in this stack. To complete the second page I will turn it upside down so that it works like a mirror image. See photo 3.

Heritage Scrapbook Layout – Grandparents

I have used a page from the Lace & Linen DCWV stack again to scrap these photos. I will give some explanations and products used below the photos.

Grandparents Layout - Full page

Grandparents Layout – Full page

This is one of my favourite pictures of my grandmother discovered after a visit to look at photos that my aunt had in an album. I was so grateful that she allowed me to photograph whichever photo I wanted which turned out to be almost all of them. I also discovered the one of my grandparents together on their wedding day and this made me wonder if the photo of my grandmother was taken as they left for their honeymoon.

I used Chromatics Cardstock CS53 – Rose and CS67 Camel for the various frames and also the flowers.

The pink ribbon was from my stash. The silhouette head is from the Heritage Cricut Cart and the Bling in the centre of the flowers is from the Bella! Wedding Collection – Pink Rhinestone with silver rim. (Links below to all products used.)

The flower is cut using the George & Basic Shapes Cricut Cartridge.

The heart frame cut from A5 Cream Cardstock  for the title is from the Wild Rose Studio Die Collection –

Ornate Heart.

I printed the words on to vellum and then attached as below.

Bottom Right Corner

The Oval Frame Die is also from the Wild Rose Studio Collection.

The pink ribbon with the pearls is actually part of the background page pattern.

I printed my journaling on Vellum to retain the background paper and placed it on the page using a very thin double side paper often called Jac Paper

(thinner than the normal Jac paper) and invisible behind the vellum.

This flower is also cut from the George and Basic Shapes Cricut Cart and was the same shape as the one at the top of the photo but this time I wet the flower pieces and then gently prised them apart so that I had two layers for the petals. I scrunched and bent to get the desired affect. I added a little touch of glitter.

Picture Perfect – A Heritage Scrapbooking page

The name of this Marion Smith paper so suits this photo. Don’t you just love these happy occasions where no one smiles, although I do see a hint of a smile on my grandmother’s face – seated bridemaid on the left. The bride is my grandmother’s sister and the groom is her brother in law on both sides – her husband’ brother and her sister’s husband. The two sisters, married brothers. My grandfather stands between my grandmother and the little girl (the groom’s sister). The bride’s father (my great grandfather) stands behind my grandmother. Not sure why his wife wasn’t in this family photo. The newspaper article to the right of the photo gives a full description of the wedding party, the material of the brides dress and veil, the colours of the bridemaids and flower girl dresses and head gear, the names of the flowers carried and the colours of the outfits that the bride and groom mothers’ wore. My grandfather’s twin brother and brother of the groom is on the right end. This picture –  A Taonga to cherish. (Taonga means a treasure).

I used cold tea to die the Title, Flourish and the paper flowers. The doily die is such a coincidence. It is a Cherry Lynn die and I didn’t realsie until I started the project that it is exactly the same die as used on the background paper – bottom corner.  I cut it out of kitchen baking paper with a piece of cream cardstock below it when I cut, so cut two doilies at the same time.

When I put the picture up here I thought that I would cover the small picture in the bottom corner with a head shot of the bride and groom – back to the photo shop again!!!
